Business South Regenerate North Hampshire & West Surrey Conference
The Regenerate North Hampshire and South West Surrey virtual conference will be an opportunity for potential investors and developers to find out first hand about the opportunities on offer
This year’s conference is all about building upon the success of previous events which annually have attracted over 100 investors and developers.
Business South is working closely with both the public and private sector to attract more stakeholders into the area and to showcase our current offer. The Conference will feature high calibre speakers from the property industry and will champion the scale of development in the North of the Region.
Our Regenerate North Hampshire and South West Surrey Action Group is a private sector initiative using exclusive industry expertise and knowledge to drive investment in the region. The group promotes development sites at a national and international level to stimulate inward investment and showcase the quality of business and investment opportunities available in this part of the UK. Activities for our Regeneration Group will include an inaugural presence at MIPIM Cannes 2021 which will provide an opportunity to demonstrate to the rest of the UK and beyond that we are a quality destination which is open for business.
The event agenda will include an opportunity to “Meet the Site Owner” as an attendee you will be invited to pre-register to meet one of the site owners at a session proceeding the main agenda in a round table virtual presentation showcasing opportunities and sites available, this will be followed by a round table discussion with the site owner and other attendees to the session. Meet this site owner sessions will be hosted by representatives from our LAs including Guildford Borough Council.

Paula has over 30 years experience in the construction industry, initially as a Quantity Surveyor before progressing to Business Development. 85% of her career has been working within the Business South region.
Throughout the current C19 situation, Paula has chaired the virtual Business South Regeneration, Recovery and Economy Action Group.
Richard Valentine-Selsey, Associate Director Residential Research – Savills
Richard Valentine-Selsey is an Associate Director in Savills residential research consultancy team in London.
His focus is on creating bespoke reports for a broad range of public and private sector clients on topics including Build to Rent, government policy, and development. He also regularly undertakes research and consultancy on alternative sectors, including Student Housing, Co-Living and Retirement Living.
Richard leads the research and reporting on Modern Methods of Construction, investigating their potential to transform housing delivery.
Tim Hancock, Managing Director – Terence O’Rourke and Chair Regeneration South
Tim has worked for Terence O’Rourke for over 30 years and is responsible for all aspects of business strategy and development.
Tim also Chairs Business South’s Regeneration South business-led action group that supports major development schemes and potential sites across the region therein promoting the south as an attractive stunning region for investment.
Sophie Camburn, Director Integrated City Planning Services – Arup
Sophie is a Director of Arup’s Integrated City Planning services the UK. With a focus on complex, multi-disciplinary projects for government, private and public-sector clients, she is committed to creating evidence-based designs that deliver inclusive socio-economic and environmental benefits. She has recently led the Cardiff City Recovery Strategy in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and is an Expert for the Towns Fund programme.
Simon Eden, Director – Southern Policy Centre
Simon is a public policy consultant and a Director of the Southern Policy Centre, the think-tank for the central South.
Originally from London, Simon began his career as a research biologist before joining the Civil Service, where he worked on local government funding and policy. In 1999 he was appointed Assistant Chief Executive of Southampton City Council, and became Director of Sustainability & Development in 2001.
In 2003 Simon was appointed Chief Executive of Winchester City Council. He led the Council for 13 years before leaving to become a policy wonk all over again.
Giles Perkins, Head of Future Mobility – WSP
Giles is WSP’s Head of Future Mobility with 30 years’ experience in mobility and digital futures, transport planning (all modes), intelligent transport, policy and strategy development and strategic studies. He is a widely recognised, well-established professional and thought leader in the field of future mobility, access and transport. He has a detailed understanding of the strategic needs and opportunities surrounding the transport challenges facing networks, regions, towns and cities.
Giles is a recognised expert in the field of future mobility, access and transport having undertaken numerous cutting-edge commissions, including the Future Mobility Study for Transport for the South East, where his insight is helping build ‘future ready’ thinking into strategies, policies and asset specifications. He is a strategic thinker, appreciating the challenges facing all modes of transport resulting from disruptors, both within the transportation realm and the wider socio-economic changes which influence it.
Giles has presented papers at numerous events and conferences in the UK, Europe, Japan and Australia focusing on the potential challenges and opportunities in the new / future mobility space with a focus on how we can navigate uncertainty. Giles was a key contributor to WSP’s well received publication ‘New Mobility Now’, contributes to our ongoing international research programme and contributed to the Go Science and DfT roundtables on Future Mobility.
Zach Wilcox, City Economics and Planning Associate – Arup
Zach is an economist in Arup’s City Economics team. He is a full member of the Institute for Economic Development and certified Better Business Cases Practitioner.
Zach’s recommendations have been adopted by city councils and in Whitehall to shape policies around economic development and inclusive growth, and his business case work has helped secure hundreds of millions of pounds of investment for clients. He co-authored Arup’s Ten ideas for local authorities to help rebuild economies after COVID-19
Michael Coughlin, Deputy CEO & Director Transformation Partnerships and Prosperity – Surrey County Council
Michael joined Surrey County Council in April 2018, having previously been Chief Executive at Reading and Crawley borough councils and an Executive Director at the Local Government Association. Over a 30 year career in local government he has also been Director of Planning & Environment and Leisure and Cultural Services at the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and Head of Leisure at Elmbridge Borough Council. Michael also spent three and half years in the private sector as UK Managing Director and Global HR Director
