Hazel Warwick - Chairman

Hazel joined Business South in 2010 as a Director and she became Chair in May 2015.

She has worked in housing and regeneration for nearly 40 years, currently a Director of HJW Consultancy Ltd, a housing and regeneration consultancy.

Prior to this she worked for First Wessex, and had responsibilities for strategic asset management, development of new homes and sales programme.

In her career she has led a number of significant regeneration projects , transforming communities, not only providing homes, but creating jobs, training and enhancing community cohesion.

Hazel is also a trustee of Emmaus Hampshire Ltd.

Gary Coulson  - Director at Terence O'Rourke

Formerly a director of one of Europe’s largest land planning practices, Gary has practiced extensively in the UK, Europe and Asia over the past 30 years. He moved to Dorset from London, joining locally based Terence O’Rourke to jointly manage and oversee the expansion of the business becoming chairman in 2008. 

In his role he has been credited with being responsible for award winning development projects at both international and national level, demonstrating his diverse interests in urban planning, renewable energy and the development of sustainable communities. 

Gary has also acted as an expert witness at public inquiries, and is a contributing author and lecturer.


John Mitchell - Group CEO

After graduating in economics, John joined a Hampshire firm of chartered accountants.

He left to join the board of a client operating in the digital pre-press sector. He subsequently became Managing Director of the company, which grew rapidly to a turnover of £10m.

In 1997, he became CEO of Enterprise First, which provides advice, training and workspace to start-ups and small businesses. Enterprise First has grown to become the leading provider of such services in the South East. John has successfully overseen the growth of Enterprise First during the past 20 years including the acquisition of four enterprise centres, membership to the Cavendish Enterprise Business Consortium and becoming a delivery partner for Virgin Start Up Loans.  

In July 2016 Business South joined the Enterprise First Group  and John took over the role of Group Chief Executive Officer in April 2017. The partnership of Business South and  Enterprise First  will enable the bringing together of large corporates and small businesses for mutual benefit, knowledge sharing and encourage local supply chains.

Alison Barnes - CEO, New Forest National Park Authority

Alison joined the Authority in June 2010 from Natural England, where she was Regional Director for London, leading engagement with large regeneration programmes such as for the Olympics, as well as taking organisational lead on landscape and green infrastructure.

Earlier in her career Alison led on local biodiversity policy within Defra and was Head of Advocacy for English Nature, using her expertise on the natural environment in both roles to advise on engaging with local and regional programmes to secure delivery. At English Nature she was responsible for policy engagement across Parliament, Whitehall and Europe, including supporting the passage of the NERC Act. She also worked for a number of years within Scottish local government, giving ecological advice and in particular focussing on restoration schemes for opencast.

Professor Graham Baldwin - Vice Chancellor, Southampton Solent University

Before joining Southampton Solent University, Graham was Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). He joined UCLan's Senior Management Team in 2003 and held posts as Dean of Academic Development and Director for Cumbria.

In 2007/08 Graham was seconded to work as the National Skills Research Director for the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority at Sellafield Limited. In March 2008 he took up the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Skills & Employer Engagement) and was appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) from 1 January 2010 with overall responsibility for UCLan's academic and research activity.He also worked closely with partner institutions particularly in Hong Kong, China and received an Outstanding Foreign Expert Award from Hebei Province. During 2014 he was also appointed as Honorary Professor at Hebei University in Baoding.


 Robert Tickell - IBM's Public Sector Leader for Europe within IBM's Midmarket business

Robert Tickell has recently been appointed IBM's Public Sector Leader for Europe within IBM's Midmarket business. His previous role was the UK and Ireland Business Leader for both Commercial and Public Sector customers, in the Midmarket  segment. Robert has been with IBM for 30 years, having had many different sales, business development and sales management roles, both in the UK and in Europe. 

Robert has been a Director of IBM UK's Pensions Trust Board since 2009, and in the past 2 years has been Co-Chair of the Board, which manages over £7bn of assets for over 40,000 members.
