12 years to save the world- Are we sure?

The Spark building- Solent University.

Plastics; the plight of the orangutan; climate change, we are assailed by tales of the impending environmental apocalypse. So why are we so bad at doing something about it?

Join us as Dr Laurie Wright, Senior Lecturer Science & Engineering at Solent University, delivers this exciting free public lecture exploring how uncertainty affects our ability to take action.

We were recently warned that there are 12 years to save the planet from devastating climate change. But, are we sure? Nearly every decision we take in life is affected by uncertainty. When should we leave the house to arrive at our destination on time? Will we encounter traffic? Will the train be on time? It is important that we consider uncertainty in our discussions about the environment. Problems arise when uncertainty confuses or is used to undermine science, present spurious theories or conspiracies, or advance political agendas.

This lecture will explore examples of how uncertainty is impacting on our ability to tackle global environmental challenges. You will discover how we can learn to love uncertainty and live a more sustainable lifestyle.
