Solent University - Transforming lives through collaboration

Solent University - The Spark, East Park Terrace, Southampton, SO14 0YN

Universities across the UK play a key role in helping to shape and develop their local communities

From urban areas with multiple providers to rural lands where one provider can be the only major employer, institutions bring different skills, knowledge and opportunities to the places that they serve.

Here in Southampton, Solent has a proven track record in supporting the local community, with the University contributing £193.4 million to the local economy. From our free public lecture series to locally applied research, use of our specialist facilities to offering live student briefs the Solent works with partners throughout the year.

The UPP Commission’s recent report on the role of a Civic University made a number of recommendations on what more Universities and local communities can do to build long-term, impactful relations. As a signatory of the pledge to develop a civic agreement we will be exploring how we can collaborate to build on best practice and help shape our future approach.

This event, which forms part of our Festival of Ideas, offers you the chance to help shape our future engagement with the city, taking a look at the work that supports Southampton's eco-system. This event will be delivered in partnership with Southampton City Council.
