Fawley Waterside joins Business South as a new Champion
Hampshire-based site development Fawley Waterside is the latest organisation to join the Business South Champion programme
Established in 2007, Business South is the independent representative of businesses in the South of England, supporting the prosperity of the region by bringing together business leaders, educators, public bodies and entrepreneurs to create a dominant and power force for change and growth.
Over the last decade, the Champions programme has grown to 150 members with 85 per cent of Champions making connections and doing business as a result of being a Champion.
Beyond making connections between individual businesses, Business South and its Champions have achieved a huge amount for the region. Together, Champions have promoted the area, demonstrated the importance of their sectors, provided invaluable thought leadership, influenced policies and investment decisions, and delivered on a range of projects.
The latest organisation to join the network, Fawley Waterside is replacing the UK’s largest oil-fired power station, on Hampshire’s most extensive brownfield site, with the first town-scale ‘smart city’ in either America or Europe.
Set between the exceptional natural landscape of the New Forest National Park and active waterways of Southampton and the Solent, Fawley Waterside aims to build a town defined by the beauty of its architecture and landscape as a demonstrably positive addition both visually and environmentally.
Aldred Drummond, Chief Executive, Fawley Waterside Ltd, is looking forward to working with Business South as he looks to improve the region's economy through the site development, stating:
“We have the opportunity to create a place that will be enormously beneficial to existing communities and be the spearhead for showing how the UK has a new blueprint for successful town building.”
Leigh-Sara Timberlake, Champion Director, Business South, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Fawley Waterside as our newest Business South Champion at such an exciting time for the site. The influence of Business South is made possible due to the high calibre of our Champions who work to help grow our local economy. It is the collaboration between them that has, and will continue to achieve a real difference for our region.”
