The best of local food and drink from the South will once again be in the spotlight at the Business South Local Produce Show returning in 2019
The event, which has been established for over a decade, is the foremost of its kind in the region. It brings together high-quality local producers with influential catering & hospitality trade buyers.
Organised by Business South, and sponsored by Cavendish Ships Stores, Carnival UK, Cunard, Halo Conferences & Events, Hampshire Fare, Hampshire Farmers’ Markets, New Forest Marque, and Paris Smith, aims to support the local and rural economies whilst developing food and drink supply chains.
Over 60 local producers will be exhibiting on the day with the Honesty Group, Hill Farm Juice, Hambledon Vineyard and Chalk Stream Foods amongst those already confirmed.
For chefs and buyers, the event provides an invaluable opportunity to source new and exciting ingredients whilst supporting the regional economy and its local producers. Previous buyers have included; Carnival UK, University of Southampton, Ideal Collection, Hampshire County Council and Hilton at the Ageas.
New for 2019 will be a Meet the Buyers panel enabling producers to pitch their produce directly to a panel of buyers, and a seminar supporting the Rural Economy. A Business Advice drop in clinic will also be available for all exhibitors and business owners to use throughout the day.
Cavendish Ships Stores has been involved and sponsored the Show since its inception. “What started as a small gathering on a P&O ship 10 years ago to promote supply to the cruise industry, has grown into an event which supports a huge array of food and beverage producers and food procurement across a wide spectrum of industries and goes from strength to strength each year” said John Davey, Director of Cavendish Ships Stores.
Carnival UK is also returning to support the event, which has led to the supply of local products on board the ships, including Lyburn Farmhouse Cheese and trout from Chalk Stream Foods. “Carnival UK has 10 ships, with 30,000 passengers and staff on board at any one time and 2,500 food products in our supply chain” explains Sally Ockenden, Director of Procurement at Carnival UK. Kevan Hodges, Carnival UK, Food & Beverage Director said “The dining experience for our guests on both P&O Cruises and Cunard is one of our highest priorities and we know it is very important for everyone who cruises with us and also a reason to book. We look for consistency and quality in the ingredients that we serve on board. If a supplier has a good provenance story this helps us to engage with guests; knowing where everything originates from and its field to fork story.”
Paris Smith LLP is also continuing its support of the Show, Laura Trapnell, Partner and head of Intellectual Property at Paris Smith LLP said “Supporting local businesses is a priority for us and events such as the Local Produce Show provide an invaluable platform for the right people to meet with each other for the mutual benefit of their businesses. The Show aims to bring about the beginnings of new contracts and new business relationships, this can be a huge and exciting opportunity for producers and we are here to support them with the legal implications of that.”
Tracy Nash, Commercial Manager at Hampshire Fare added “this unique event brings together the region’s high-quality food and drink producers with food and drink industry buyers, chefs, caterers and procurement teams. The Local Produce Show always has a fantastic atmosphere with real connections being made on the day. The event is a must visit for both suppliers and buyers of local produce in our region.”
The Local Produce Show will take place on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 at Southampton Football Club, Britannia Road, Southampton, SO14 5FP
