HR Professionals Assess What Motivates Them and Others
A full house of HR Professionals attended the recent HR Seminar at the Meon Valley Country Club on 4th July 2017.
Geoff Glover, Chair of the Business South HR Forum set the backdrop for the seminar and Barney Ely, Director at Hays Specialist Recruitment, kicked off the first session by outlining the results of Hay’s latest survey on ‘What Workers Want’.
The survey spoke to over 13,650 UK professionals, across a broad range of sectors and disciplines. Some of the key findings showed that over 40% would consider a new role that offered an improved work-life balance, over a third would reject a job offer that didn’t include training and development and a staggering 84% look at an employer's flexible working policy when considering application.
Steve Jones, Managing Director at Skills for Business (pictured) explored the challenges companies are facing in engaging their staff by ‘Unlocking Employee Engagement and Motivation in Business’. It drew on the Macleod Review commissioned by the Government in 2010 to look at Employee Engagement and the findings of those organisations that were managing to harness the full potential and capabilities of their people. It also considered the cost benefits of engagement versus disengagement.
In a practical session, Steve Jones then revealed the results of the Motivational Maps questionnaire each participant completed prior to the day.
The findings revealed what did and didn’t motivate them, how motivated they were and what to do to maintain or improve their motivations.
The tool is used with staff to get engagement and learn how to work with teams and the businesses to ensure they are aligning personal motivators with business objectives - ensuring discretionary effort is achieved and everyone wins.
