Southampton set to have region’s biggest pet-friendly apartment complex
Southampton is soon to have the region’s biggest pet-friendly apartment complex as the second and third phases of development near completion.
Bow Square is a brand-new collection of apartments built purely for renters in Queensway, Southampton City Centre. It’s entirely pet friendly, meaning every single apartment is available for renters to live with their cats or dogs and there’s even a resident dog walking club being set up.
The first phase of the development, which opened its doors to renters in October last year, has proven extremely popular with pet owners and when the second and third phases open from this summer it’s expected that Bow Square – at 279 properties – will be the region’s biggest pet-friendly apartment complex.
Adam Dale, community director at Bow Square, said: “Traditionally finding a place to rent has been a nightmare for pet owners. So many landlords don’t accept cats or dogs and it can be a real struggle for people to find a place that accepts their four-legged friend. Even if one apartment in a building accepts pets, the one next door might not because it’s owned by someone else.
“We love our animals here and are proud to be, as we understand, the first apartment building in Southampton that’s entirely pet-friendly. Once our 170 extra apartments become available later this year there’ll be even more room for waggy-tailed residents.”
Bow Square is able to be pet friendly across the board because every single apartment is owned and managed by one company – Atlas Residential. The arrangement – called Build to Rent – makes it a lot quicker and simpler to get things done. There’s an on-site management team so if it’s noticed that any communal areas need repainting or things fixing, for example, it gets done straight away.
Dudley Grey, who lives at Bow Square with his partner and their two dogs Zeus and Scout, said: “It’s so good to be able to have our dogs here with us. There’s quite a community of people here with pets so it’s nice getting to know one another. There are so many parks nearby which is great for Zeus and Scout.”
